This nine and a half acre garden is a tropical oasis dedicated to research from more than 150 expeditions to the tropics and subtropics collecting epiphytes, orchids and bromeliads, as well as their canopy ecosystems. They feature over 20,000 plants and maintain over 20 habitats such as live oaks, palms, mangroves, banyans, bamboo and many more, plus a koi pond.
As you walk the grounds making your way through tropical growth around a giant banyan tree you will find a delightful lawn area or the boardwalk along the water through mangroves each with wooden benches allowing people to relax. There are several display areas such as – The Outdoor Butterfly Grand, the Tropical Display House with its lush rain forest; the towering Bamboo Pavilion, Banyan Grove, Cactus and Succulent Garden with their Cycad Collection, plus many more. There is also a wedding pavilion at the end of the garden under a Bo tree near the water where many couples have exchanged their vows.
From there we will stop at St. Armands Circle. St. Armands Key is an island shopping center removed from the bustle of the mainland by two bridges over magnificent Sarasota Bay. Unique in concept, history, and beauty, St. Armands provides an unforgettable experience for visitors from all over the world. Set amidst a tropical paradise, St. Armands is an enchanting circle of fine shops and gourmet restaurants. Renowned as a market place with a continental flavor, it is a charming and graceful synthesis of past and present.
